Würzburg to Tübingen

On June 16, we drive from Würzburg to Tübingen, which looks to be around a 2 hour drive if we were to do it as a straight shot (accurate?). We'd like to stop a couple of times along the way, even if it takes us a bit out of the way. Considered Nordlingen, or perhaps going the other direction to Heidelberg. Of course there is the obvious choice of Rothenburg on the way if we go the Nordlingen route, but I think we can do better... Any suggestions one way or the other? Interested in any less obvious stops that the guidebooks overlook - a brewery, unique site or point of interest, plus lunch in there somewhere. Food is an important part of travel to us.
Suggestions? Thanks!

On the south-west route: Dinkelsbühl, Ellwangen, Neresheim, Schwäbisch Gmünd ... and many other places worth a stop.

a brewery
Near Rothenburg: Landwehrbräu in Reichelshofen - great beer in a great inn.

If you go to Nördlingen, we enjoyed the Gasthof zum Fuchs Brewery-Restaurant. It is not "fine dining" but typical Bavarian food, a little better than average to our taste. Pleasant dark wood atmosphere and friendly waitresses.

Heidelberg adds too much time to your drive and not enough time to appreciate Heidelberg itself. Have a look at the lovely town of Bad Wimpfen, maybe incorporate a walk along the Neckar and the salt works at Bad Friedrichshall beforehand.
