I am going to Germany for a wedding this June 2018, and I have a few days to venture out on my own. I have been to Germany in the past and have seen quite a bit. Has anyone been to Wurzburg and / or Triberg? Those are 2 of my considerations. I could do Wurzburg as a day trip from Munich, but Triberg would have to an overnight stay. Or are there any other places you could suggest? I will be traveling by train or bus ( no driving) . Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
I visited both places about 5 years ago. Both are nice but believe Wurzburg has more to offer. There is a nice set of cascades in Triberg and some shops along the main street , but that’s about it, unless you’re looking to buy a coocoo clock. A couple other options are Nuremberg and Regensburg. Both should be doeable as day trips from Munich. Nuremberg is larger with a rather small historic center. Regensburg is a more a town with some nice old buildings and the supposed oldest restaurant in Germany.
My two favorite towns in Germany are Würzburg and Regensburg. Lots of history and atmosphere in both. As a day trip from München (Munich), I would recommend Regensburg. It has Roman ruins, a Gothic cathedral (plus nearby Rococo Alte Kapelle) and a wealth of middle-ages squares and alleyways. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Everything is within a reasonable walk in the pedestrian zone from the train station.
I'd suggest Wurzburg as it really has a lot to offer. But definitely do it as an overnight trip. Two nights would be even better. It's really too far from Munich to try it as a day trip.
Neither one is especially good as a day trip - Triberg is totally unsuitable. You say you have a few days, how are you planning on spending the others?
