Wulfershausen, Bavaria, Germany

We are planning a spring trip to Germany with a visit to Wulfershausen, Bavaria, Germany - but just discovered there are TWO near Schweinfurt!! My husband's family are from there - but which one? Can anyone tell me information about the history of these two towns? We might end up visiting both!!

Googled Wulfershausen and the name Wulfrathausen in Bavaria kept coming up. Could that be it?

I tried Google maps, Open Street Map (which I prefer), via Michelin and German Wikipedia.
I found no Wulfershausen, but 3 Wülfershausen (u and ü are two different letters in German)

  • Wülfershausen an der Saale, municipality in Landkreis (county) Rhön-Grabfeld in northern Bavaria.
  • Wülfershausen (Thüringen), part of the municipality of Osthausen-Wülfershausen in county Ilm-Kreis in Thüringen.
  • Wülfershausen (Wasserlosen), part of the municipality of Wasserlosen in Landkreis (county) Schweinfurt, also in northern Bavaria.

Like most places in Germany, all three have a long and varied history, and belonged to many different countries at different times in history. Have you any clues to which one you want?

I also found Wolfratshausen, capital of Landkreis (county) Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in southern Bavaria, south of Munich.

We have these two towns showing up on our Michelin German map - one is due west of Schweinfurt the other is north - both are about twenty minutes (west) to half an hour (north) away. I was hoping a search for an 1880 Bavaria map would help eliminate one - but it doesn't! I will try TripAdvisor - Thanks!
Wulfershausen, Bavaria, Germany is all we have.

Considering the propensity of people to just ignore those two little dots over the u (they are not just insignificant ornaments!), I think it's likely that the two Wülfershausens near Schweinfurt are probably the towns you are talking about. Is there anything about your family history which might indicate which one it is? You don't say where you live, but you might see if there is an LDS (Mormon) Family History Center near you and see if you can get birth/immigration records (microfilm) from the towns to see if there was anyone with your family name from either town.

Past,
According to German Wikipedia, the first written record of Wülfershausen an der Saale was in the year 800, Wülfershausen (Wasserlosen) is a relative newcomer with the first written reference in 1100. Though both may be one or more centuries older, they were just not written about. I don't see how a map from 1880 could help, it would show both.
I think you have to go back to your family history to find out which one they came from. I don't see how we (or TripAdvisor) could help more.

And please, as Lee says, when you are doing internet searches (or posts) spell it correctly, "Wülfershausen", or it you will not get the results you want.

Just wanted to update and thank everyone - found out the correct town is Wülfershausen an der Saale, Rhon-Grabfeld, Bayern/Bavaria - my husband's uncle was there about 15-20 years ago - they verified that is the place!
