Would you definitely pre-book 6/5-6/7 & 6/11-6/12

We are traveling for 30 days, and have booked the majority of lodgings. We plan to be in the Koblenz-Bacharat area on the 5th-7th of June, and Salzburg the 11-13. Getting to busy to wing it?

I would book your lodging now. Bacharach is a sm village with limited places to stay. Also salzburg so u get the location u wish there. Nothing worse than going door to door to find lodging at a rate u cannot find.

Mon-Wed on the Rhine? You'll find somewhere to stay. But if your dates are definite, why not book so you get what you want at a price you like? And the other thing is getting a town that works well logistically for whatever outings you plan to take. If you are traveling by train, as your other thread indicates, Bacharach does have a station, but it lacks certain advantages, and you will probably do better to get a place in St. Goar. Why?

  • St. Goar is more central to the sights and places of interest between Koblenz and Bingen (the southern end of the scenic part.)

  • Rheinfels Castle is right in St. Goar. You can visit whenever it ends up being convenient.

  • The St. Goar ferry allows you to cross the river to use trains on the other river bank.

  • St. Goar is only 10 train minutes from Bacharach - it's very easy to stop by Bacharach to see its attractive buildings.

  • If you decide to take a scenic river cruise... St. Goar is at the northern end of the most scenic part, so Bingen - St. Goar is a common cruise segment. When you step off the boat from Bingen, you are "home."

Thanks for the tips. I was getting exhausted trying to line up lodging for 6 countries, but realize I will grow more weary knocking on doors when I get there. I will also need to stretch my $$$$.

Hi,

For a small place like Bacharch, I would prefer booking the lodging.
