Hi
Has anyone been to Wittenberg recently. Know there is lots of construction for the 2017 anniversary but wonder if it is still worth going? I would like to see the Luther sites and will be going on my own from Berlin.
thanks
I think they work on the castle church, but it's still worth going. Wittenberg is a cute little town, at least some of the sites are open, and there is a big state exhibition about Cranach the Younger right now.
PS: and in nearby Torgau, also important to the Protestant Reformation, is a big exhibition about Luther.
My daughter and I were there in early May. The Castle Church was closed and completely under scaffolding except for the door where he nailed the 95 thesis, but everything else was open (Luther's house, the church where Luther preached-St. Marien). We went to the Luther house and the church and walked down to where the Castle Church is. It is a wonderful, old town and worth a visit. We went from Berlin on the train and then walked into town which was about a 10 to 15 minute walk depending on how fast you walk. Its an easy day trip from Berlin.
