Sept 16 2017 weekend is one of the Rhine in flames festival days but we will be leaving the region that morning Saturday and missing the fireworks. However I think there may be a wine festival the Friday before Rhine In Flames. What goes on then? Is it a good thing to go to or better to avoid? How crazy are the crowds? I can't seem to find much info on the wine festival Friday part of that festival weekend

I have been to some of these festivals, and I can't say I have ever seen any "crazyness". The Dutch people will be enjoying themselves, but hardly in a crazy manner.
Thank you so much. I had been to that website but I didn't see the wine part the layout seems odd on my device. When I meant crazy I meant like is it shoulder to shoulder crowded. I like the idea of having the different stalls and booths 😀
They aren't crazy festivals. Just people enjoying wine, the view of the Rhine and Burg Rheinfels across the river, usually some music from live bands, face painting for the kids.
Puzzled by the last post that mentions the Dutch. Guessing a typo? There will be a lot of Germans there from the region, though you may get some Americans coming up from Wiesbaden. This isn't one of the more popular or well known fests.
If you don't like it, you don't have to stay there. Just go across the river to St. Goar and the castle.

Last Strassenweinfest I was at was loaded with Dutch people coming down for the week end, and two Dutch bands.
