Who has done the best of Germany tour?

We are excited to go on our first Rick Steves tour this summer! I noticed that when we are in Berlin that we visit the Reichstag. How in depth is that visit? I see where you can book a tour and dome visit on their website, but of course that wouldn’t be necessary if it is already included in the tour. Does anybody know if it’s included? It books up so far in advance that I don’t want to miss my opportunity if need be! If I do book, should I book the same day we visit with the tour or do we visit other sights afterward.? Thank you for your help!

The itinerary shows on the 12th day on the walking tour you go to the Reichstag but it doesn't spell out whether the tour ascends the tower. I did that on my own (not on a tour) and it is really worth going up. You don't want to miss the experience.

I would suggest you simply call Rick Steves's office and get a confirmation of yes or no.

Note: When I did the ascent, I had an appointment time. The reception was perfectly organized, had a complete record of my info and appointment time, and thus there was no waiting to go up. I question whether Rick Steves can make an appointment for twenty plus tour member and predict the time the tour group would arrive at the Reichstag. That is why I suggest you call their office for confirmation.

Thanks David, did the ascent include the tour as well?

I didn't take the tour of the building; simply made reservations to go up the Reichstag Dome.

The ninety minute tour consists of touring the inside of the building and at the end of the building tour you end up at the dome.

We went on the BOG tour last September. The Reichstag was not included in our tour, but our guide (the wonderful Carolina), arranged for some people that were interested to have lunch there.

C.figura, thank you! That was just what I was looking for. I would like to sign up to tour it, do you think I should do that on a different day ( we are adding 2 days to Berlin) or is there free time in the afternoon of the tour day that I can do it? Thanks again!

Kathim11, while I have not been on this tour I've done 10 RS tours. I'd recommend you do ticket-specific events on one of your days ahead of the tour. The timings on tour days can sometimes vary depending on local events, etc, so to me it's better to do those things ahead of time.

I'm glad you've got time ahead of your tour start! There is always more to see in the start cities than the tour has time to cover plus it's better to be over jet lag and recover from travel tiredness so you can hit the ground running with your guide!

kathim - I would book the tour on a different day....we were pretty tired and hot after the Berlin city tour in the morning (as well as the tour itself). I think you would enjoy it more if you had extra time before.

I’ll book on one of my extra days. Thank you all for your input, only 131 days to go!
