which train station in Büdingen is closer to old part of town?

Hello, I would like to take the train from Frankfurt to Büdingen, Germany. The Deutsche bahn website shows that some trains to Büdingen go to Oberhess station and some trains go to Bahnhof station. None of the trains stops at both stations. I was not able to learn which of the train stations is closer to the old part of Büdingen, the part that tourists would like to visit. I need to know this in order to know which train to take. Thank you very much.

Buedingen (Oberhess) is the actual train station. Buedingen Bahnhof is the adjacent bus station or stop. Look closely at the connection detail on DB and you will see that the last leg is a bus (actually reads "Anruf-Linien-Taxi" with a phone number).

If you use the website for the local trains, it will give you a bit more information. Use www.rmv.de to find your trains, time schedule, stops and prices. Group day ticket, valid for up to 5 people would be 27.60 €. Two, one way tickets for one person will be less of course.

Your train will go from Frankfurt main station to Gelnhausen. Here you need to get off, walk to another track and get the dedicated train that just runs back and forth between Giessen and Gelnhausen. There is usually about 10 min. between trains and easy to make. The stop you will get off at is Büdingen. The old town is about a 10-15 min. walk. There are buses that take you into the old town, but in the dozens of times I have gone to Büdingen, I have never used them. I enjoy the walk as you go from modern, into turn of the century and then into 1600-1700's, and then the massive, red stone Jerusalem gate looms up in front of you. If you take the bus, you would miss seeing this.

I highly recommend booking a private tour through the Tourist Info in Büdingen. They take you inside the massive walls and up onto the guard towers. The tours are the only way to do this and well worth the 45 € or so they cost for a group of 5 or less.

Hello Ms. Jo, When I took your advice & used the www.rmv.de website to look for trains from Frankfurt am Main to Büdingen, there were more than 10 stations listed as Büdingen! And none of them was Büdingen Oberhess. I didn't know which station to select. Jackie

Buedingen Bf or Buedingen Bahnhof are the train station. The other listings are bus stops in town. Since you are buying a ticket, you can use a local bus to continue your journey if you don't want to walk. You'll just have to locate the closest stop to where you want to end up. Could complicate the route though if the bus stop you want is not served by a bus that also stops at the Bahnhof (train station). I don't think Buedingen is that big of a town. You just have to enter that as a destination and see what kind of routing it gives you.

Use Büdingen Hauptbahnhof or Bahnhof, or Hbf. as your end destination. That will be the main station and the only one where the train will stop. All others will be bus stops, not train stops.

Sam is correct. There is nothing at this station at all. It isn't open. All that is there is a ticket machine sitting outside an old abandoned station. Best is to store your bag in Frankfurt, or are you coming from someplace else?
