Which time slots for Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein?

Visiting in July as a day trip from Munich. Our train will arrive in Fussen at 1142. I assume the 1225 tour start would be too early since we also need to catch a bus and get to Hohenschwangau. That leaves entry times of 1340 and 1700 for Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein or we can purchase 1455 and 1750.

Would you recommend the later times and spending some time walking around Fussen? I was thinking the later times may be better for crowds too but I'm not sure.

Thanks for your advice!

With such a late morning arrival, a very quick pop into Fussen does not do it much justice. If you have advanced bookings then crowds don't really play into it. Head straight to Hohenschwangau village for a walkaround and a coffee. Take the 1340 and 1700 entry times, if they are the most practical options (English tours?). In between, there's the Museum of Bavarian Kings, photos on Marienbruke and beyond, a short hike on part of the Alpsee trail.

Fussen is lovely in the evening, if you're in no rush to get back to Munich.

Thank you for the advice. I booked those time slots. It will be a long day but we have nothing to wake up for the next morning, so we can sleep in
