Which mobile operator would be a good choice for mostly 3G/4G usage ?

Hi all. I will be moving to Germany next week and will be living there for next 1-2 years. I am looking for advice on which mobile operator to choose there keeping in mind the following points:

Well obviously, cheaper ones would be preferred.
I will be using it primarily for Internet. So the service provider with better internet packs is preferred.
It would be great if provider allows free/cheap data in international roaming as i would be traveling within Europe a lot.

A friend of my recently went with smartmobil.de. Be aware you are getting into a 2 year or more contract.

A good compromise between quality and cost is Congstar, a subsidiary of Telekom. A bit more expensive than low cost carriers like Base but much better network coverage. Or any other reseller of the Telekom network. I'd go to a mobil phone shop operated by turkish people (which are oft found around train stations) and ask for the best solution. They are much better than the smart youngsters in the brand shops.
