Which luge?

After visiting Neuschwanstein, my husband and I would like to do a luge. The one at Oberammergau (Kolbensattel Tegelbergbahn) looks like more of a thrill compared to the one in Schwangau (Sommerrodelbahn am), but I'm not sure if it's worth the 40 minute drive.

Thanks for your input.

we had great fun at the one at .. tegelberg I think? It was part of the mike's bikes tour we took from munich. It was really close to the castle. The only one I have ever done, but we enjoyed it!

Thanks Kim. That's the Tegelberg one you went to, which looks really convenient (and fun). Did you take the cable care as well?

We did the alpine slide at Oberammergau (Kolbensattel) and had an absolute blast! The lift to the top is very pleasant and the view is wonderful. The slide itself is on a track rather than a luge. The course goes through the trees and is thrilling but not scary and absolutely beautiful. We loved it so much we took a second trip! If you're looking for a thrill and a view, this is your best option.

Tegelberg is a beautiful area, and we love to spend the day hiking and watching the paragliders. The slide there is in a luge track and curves back and forth.

I'd recommend you do a search on YouTube. Several people have posted videos so you can take a virtual ride down the mountain and pick which one you like best!

We walked the nice path to Tegelberg after touring Neuschwanstein (less than 3 km one-way). I recommend eating at Reith-Alpe Schwangau near Tegelberg. We didn't do the luge only because it looked very similar to ones we have done in the US. It looked like fun, though. We were riding the bus to/from Fussen that day, so we just boarded it at Tegelberg and headed back to our hotel in Fussen.

Nesselwang, about 20 min north and west of Fussen, has a fantastic zip line and luge run complex!
The luge is on an aluminum track, very fast, with lots of curves. Give the person ahead of you a long lead time. We got stuck behind a very cautious older lady. This one is better than Bichlbach by far.
The best part tho is the zip line! It’s really 2 rides. The first part is short and scary but it gets you to the platform for the ride down the main hill. The brochure says you can reach speeds up to 120 km/h and I may have hit that. Wear a wind proof coat and bring your nerve. Terrifying fun!
