Which cities in Germany for a week

We are travelling from South Africa to the UK and then on to Germany (maybe also Krakow to visit Auschwitz) four about a week. Only adults (6). Which cities would you recommend that are worth visiting? Maybe flying into Berlin on our first stop and then taking the train to other cities or places worth seeing.

If not Berlin which suggestions can be made. We have done the Rhine and visited Ausmannshusen before. Very beautiful. Would like to actually do the black forest and surrounds? Any suggestions would be welcome.

I would suggest visiting either Munich or Berlin. Both are great European cities, and you could take some good day trips out of either.

Munich has Salzburg 2 hrs. to the east and Innsbruck and the Austrian Alps 2 hrs. south--both accessible by train. Dachau would be a good 1/2 day trip for you. You can also get a very inexpensive Bavarian train pass to get you through the region.
Berlin is another city that has so much to see. There are a number of good day trips including Dresden (just over 2 hours away by train.)

Hi,

For a week Berlin or Munich, as suggested above. Both are well worth it for a host of reasons. Choose one. I would choose Berlin.

I would choose a week in Berlin over a week in Munich. Lots more to see and do. There are many towns that would be good day trips besides just Dresden. Consider Hamburg, Quedlinburg, Lübeck, Potsdam, or the Spree Wald.
