The Hotel Astoria in Trier, Germany exceeded our expectations for a reasonably priced hotel near the town center. The American-born proprietess is welcoming, friendly and full of information. The buffet breakfast (included) provides a delicious and attractive array with cold cuts, cheese, vegetables and fruits as well as yoghurt and muesli. A glass of complementary champagne is a surprise treat. The hotel is spotless, quiet, and our bed was comfortable. There is no lift but the stairway is punctuated with landings. If booking sites show no rooms are available, it is definitely worthwhile to check at the front desk for on-site availabilty. We are glad we did.
Susan you might want to move this to the Hotel recommendations forum. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany-reviews
actually the reviews section is for reviews but not questions. That hasn't been strictly enforced. Most questions asking for help should be in the country forum like here.
Actually if you look at the forum, Nigel, the description says, "Share your candid opinions about hotels and restaurants or ask other travelers about their reviews."
But I have a feeling that it used to be like what you described, in that it was questions only because I remember thinking that that seemed a bit silly. So maybe they changed the language...
I have been writing here for so long I never look at descriptions - my fault -
