where to stay in Regensburg close to train for prague

I m on a Viking trip and final leg in regensburg - where I plan to spend one night in a hotel and then book either a train or bus to Prague

2 questions

  • I prefer the train - which is the best one to travel?? - I also see the bus going but am a bit leary of that an not sure if there will be much traffic.

S hall I try to get a hotel closer to the station - does it matter - and does anyone have any recs for hotel or B&B - in Regensburg - its only for a night - so does not have to be fancy

There is not much choice, only the ALX via Schwandorf and Plzen. Look up connections at db.com but book your ticket on the website of the Czech Railways (cd.cz), where it is much cheaper (theoretically, you could also go via Linz in Austria, but that would cost many times more).

Check out Hotel Peterstor, it is not far from the train station but still in a quiet neighborhood of the old town.

We like the Hotel Weidenhof about 3 blocks from the Regensburg train station. Nice folks, good breakfast and very adequate rooms. It is an easy walk in the pedestrian zone from the town center and tourist sights: the cathedral, the 100O+ year old bridge, etc.

It matters to me given your situation. I second Hotel Peterstor, stayed there in Aug of 1989 but not as a jump-off for going into Czechia or Prague. Nuremberg is my choice.
