Where to Stay in Leipzig?

Anyone have any favourite places they've stayed in Leipzig? Looking for something not too expensive (under 80 euros/night) with good location (we will not have a vehicle). AirBNBs, Bed and Breakfasts, hotels?

On the last trip we stayed in Victor's Residenz, just across the road from the Central Station and some 10 minutes walk to the city centre. Excellent value for your money. Single rooms within your price bracket.

I've stayed at the Novotel, right across the street from the Hauptbahnfhof. No frills, but no nasty surprises either and relatively benign price.

If you're looking for something in the center of Leipzig, € 80 might not get you very far.

Enjoy Leipzig. I think it is quite an underrated destination. Easily the most overall attractive large city of the former DDR.

I've stayed at the Days Inn near the Grassi Museums. Just outside the city centre but easy walking distance, and very comfortable. You could probably get below 80 euros if you book in advance with them.

I've also checked on hotels in Leipzig and the previously mentioned Victors Residenz Hotel is on my list. I called a couple of hotels and found out that sometimes they'll give you a better price if you book directly with them. I also found out that Leipzig has quite a few conventions and trade fairs and that the room prices really go up during those times. The city websites can be read in English and you can find out about conventions there. Victors is, as mentioned, near the Hauptbahnhof/main railway station. There you can find fast food and grocery places on the ground level or thereabouts. I'm also considering Hotel Alt Connewitz, south of the city center but just about a block from the tram going into town, a short 15 min. or so trip. I believe this hotel is mostly frequented by Germans.

I have been warned not to go to Connewitz in early May as it's the scene of an annual May Day riot where the local hard-left, neo-nazis, and riot police traditionally gather to beat the !! out of each other and anyone who gets between them. Other times of the year are fine.

That's exactly what you want is to be in a good hotel frequented mainly by Germans. I've have not stayed in Leipzig yet, only made day trips there from Berlin, AirBnB are outlawed in Berlin. Pensionen and hotels (depending on your luxury demand) are the way to go.

In May 2015, my daughter and I stayed at Motel One-Nikolaikirche. It generally averages around 69 euro per night. We arrived via train and it was an easy walk from the train station. We walked all around Leipzig from there.
