We will be in Berlin in Nov. for a week and we do like to stay in an apartment type accomodation., but not sure of an area where we can just come out from our place and start exploring ..we will be arriving by train..any suggestions of an area where we can explore on foot before using transit.

Berlin is an enormous city. Would you rather be close to the sites or close to good restaurants and entertainment? If it's the former, Mitte is the place to stay. If you want to spend less and stay in the neighborhoods, consider Charlottenburg, Prenzlauer Berg, or Friedrichshain.

Thanks for the areas we would like to stay in an area where we can start exploring..we always find out of the way restaurants to eat ..usually where locals not tourists eat..do you know of any places that rent out apartments you could suggest

I cannot recommend any apartments, but I would recommend staying in The Mitte. It seemed like so much of what we wanted to see was within easy walking distance there, and we found restaurants and lovely bakeries anytime we needed one.
