Well, I thought I could post a photo here but I guess not. My father took some pictures of some old castle looking buildings in Germany in 1945 but I do not know where he was at the time. I'm guessing Heidelberg or Hamburg. These pictures have never been seen before and I was pretty excited to find them. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to post them (or if that is allowed)? I'm sure somebody here will recognize them and be able to tell me where they were taken.
No, posting photos is not allowed. You can put them online somewhere and provide a link to them, but people are leery of clicking links to unfamiliar sites.
Google reverse image search for instructions. Upload your photo and see if you get any hits.
Thanks for the information. I will try the Google solution first.
And let us know what you find -----
Google image didn't reveal anything except that these might be in England. That's possible. I thought Germany because the other images were of battle damage in Germany. I put the two images in my Dropbox if anyone wants to have a look. Here's a link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/495vtes6awwgfa3/AADPps5U8iRXWVKKgmtwDsWka?dl=0
dflorian,
Forum members sometimes post internet links to photos and that seems to be allowed. If you have a photo website, you could perhaps have that shown in your profile, rather than posting it on the public forum. Hopefully one of the other forum members knows a better solution.
I think it is the Schloss in Friedberg in Hessen, Germany about 35k north of Frankfurt. I was stationed in Friedberg 1987-1990 in the 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division. Ray Barracks closed in 2007. Elvis Presley was stationed there and lived in a house in Bad Nauheim. It's a nice area.
Yes, the image on the right is definitely the south gate of Schloss Friedberg.

Note coat of arms above the entry way.
The image on the left appears to be Schloss Loewenburg just west of Kassel.

Note the chapel windows and steeple, tall round tower and shorter square tower. Interesting that the image you show appears to be reversed.
That's it! Thank you everyone. I will have to make plans for a German trip to see this and many other sites.
Wow, I am impressed. I was simply going to contribute that it would not be northern Germany because the Americans were in the south, but other posters were all over it!
That said, don't miss my beautiful Hamburg when you come. Everything south of the Elbe is pretty much Italy as far as we northerners are concerned!
