Where Did You Stay in Berlin?

We plan to fly from Stuttgart to Berlin in May or June 2026. I have Googled "hotels in Berlin", utilized a couple of travel guides, and even looked on booking.com. I am asking for suggestions based on your personal experience. At this juncture, the price range doesn't matter.

Thanks for your input.

A couple months ago I spent 4 nights at the Marriott Moxy Berlin Humboldthain Park. I chose it for a couple reasons. I used points, it near the Flak Tower in the park, and it was by a train station. All of that worked for me.

The hotel is nice, not luxurious, but I found the location ideal. The underground tours start about a block away. the restaurants I hit were good and inexpensive, the shopping available was more than I'd ever require, and I really don't ask for more.

But, the neighborhood is very ethnic, there are bums in the park, and meth is available (based on several inhabitants actions and appearances.) Still I had a really good time. It was easy to get to the tourist areas, easy to get to the flea markets, and easy to get to the museums and other points I wanted to visit.

This summer my first choice was to stay in Berlin Ostbahnhof but the dates for the hotel did not work out. Luckily the Intercity Berlin Hbf was available, even though my dates were broken up there too, so I chose the Berlin Campanile, overpriced.

Last summer in addition to Intercity Hbf I also stayed in Hotel Augusta in Berlin -Charlottenburg on Fasanenstrasse....very nice, genteel, run by an elderly Polish woman, whose staff mainly Polish, tri-lingual with German , Polish, and English, takes cc. The decor is old school, a lovely small 3 star hotel.

During our most recent visit my wife and I opted for a small Abb apartment overlooking the Spree and within a short walk of the Ost Bahnhof. It was perfect for us. There were several places to shop for groceries, fruit, coffee, beer, sausage and bread nearby. There are many nice parks in the area. I suppose that if you look closely, you may also find a few seedy characters. My grandmother always described anyone not up to her inspection standards as Halbstarke...I wonder if this term still has context? In modern Berlin these might also be woman and late in the day, I see them towing small wagons filled with possessions or hauling suitcases as they head to vacant lots to set up camp for the night.
Berlin is very easy to get around in. I have never thought that the location of a hotel or accommodation is hypercritical. I suppose my opinion might change if my stay were a short one, but I tend to schedule 4 or more days there,

I have stayed at the Living Hotel Berlin Mitte twice, and would absolutely recommend it. Both times I was in a "triple apartment" which was particularly fantastic. It had a "front door" off the hotel corridor, then a kitchenette area, then separate doors off to the bedrooms and bathrooms, so it was a neat little self-contained unit for two or three people. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. It's in a nice enough neighbourhood, former East Berlin, pretty characterful in a post-Soviet way with lots of plattenbau housing, within walking distance of an Aldi supermarket. It also could not be any closer to the Märkisches Museum U-Bahn station on line U2, which takes you to the big hub at Alexanderplatz in just 2 stops.

Motel One near Potsdamer Platz. It was close to transport, clean and affordable. A good option if you prefer a chain style hotel experience. It was attached to a shopping mall so the food court was a good source when we wanted a quick no-fuss meal.

My two friends and I stayed at the Hyperion Hotel in September, 2023 and loved it. It was right across the street from a lovely little park with benches and just feet away from several restaurants and a couple of grocery stores. The rooms were very nice and spotlessly clean. One room had a balcony with a table and chairs that we used for an improvised happy hour overlooking the park. We had the "family studio" which consisted of two interconnecting comfort category rooms. The hotel was a very short (less than five minute) walk to a metro station and we were able to get to around Berlin without any issues. I would definitely consider staying there again if I ever return to Berlin.

My last 2 times in Berlin, I stayed at the Motel One near the Hauptbahnhof. This suited my purposes of having trains going to all the places I wanted to go. The location was great for me and they are my favorite chain.

Twice I have stayed at different Air BnBs in Kreuzberg, not far from Admiralbrücke. Very neighborhoody, untouristy feel.

Once I stayed at Miniloft Apartment Hotel Kreuzberg. They have another hotel in Mitte. The location of Miniloft Kreuzberg was fantastic. Very central. Five minutes walk from U Kochstrasse. I would definitely stay there again.

Another time I stayed way over in City West at the Citadines Kurfürstendamm. I don't recommend staying that far out unless you have a lot of activities planned closer to that side of town, or you get a deal on a place to stay (which is why we stayed there - it was part of a Delta Vacations package). It was fine, transit took us everywhere we wanted to go, but most of what we wanted to do was in the east side of the city.

In March, I stayed at the oft-recommended Adina Apartment Hotel at Hackescher Markt. This location is also fantastic with the added benefit of being able to take the S9 direct from and to the airport. The hotel is modern, and, I thought, a little soulless, but completely comfortable and super convenient to everything.

We stayed at the InterContinental when we were in Berlin in September 2023. The bus stop was across the street that got us to the main sites and train station; another bus stop out front that took us to Charlottenburg Palace and the Zoo U-Bahn station; and there was an U-Bahn station about a 7-8 minute walk away. There were quite a few restaurants and bars within walking distance which was nice. The staff was so friendly and our room was very nice. I am an IHG member so we do tend to favor those properties when we travel whenever possible.

Hello!
This past July, my wife and I (in our 50s) stayed in the Mitte area at Hotel Zoe by Amano, right in the Hackescher Markt. There is another Amano hotel in Berlin, but we were at Zoe. The hotel is extremely convenient. It is easily walkable to museum Island, and all of the big sites in the former East Berlin, such as the Alexanderplatz. Here’s a link. area.https://www.amanogroup.com/en/hotels/berlin-mitte-hotel-zoe-by-amano?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=844765823&gclid=CjwKCAjwisnGBhAXEiwA0zEORyoqk4oRpVOzD9NZBk7oCMKmiMXnv3c8Or4JJmkIuvbGZBHIBnMk-hoCUicQAvD_BwE

The hotel is convenient to lots of public transportation, trams, S-Bahn, U-Bahn. It looks a little fancy in the lobby, but is not too expensive. It has air-conditioning, if that’s important. The restaurant and breakfast buffet are wonderful, but a bit pricey. After our first morning, We opted to get our breakfast from local bakeries that are within an easy walk. There is a produce, food, craft, flea market, literally steps from the hotel twice a week. Though the hotel is centrally located, the rooms are quiet. There is a nice bar on the top floor. I believe that we got complementary drink passes for one night at that bar. The staff is very friendly.

We are currently at the Adina Aparthotel at Hackescher Markt for 5 nights.

We find it clean, nice, and a great location for using public transportation. It has a helpful front desk and offers breakfast if interested (we’re not breakfast people). We have a king studio (the 1 bedroom was sold out) but it has ample space with a little kitchen area.
We’ve walked by many beautiful looking hotels that would offer more luxury.

Our multi-generational family of 7 stayed in Myer's Hotel in Berlin this past May. Absolutely loved it - hotel has Great Gatsby vibes. Two doors down is the cozy Leibhaftig Restaurant that serves traditional German "small plates" and has a very welcoming atmosphere
