We were thinking about traveling to Germany in 2022, but the online store is showing that the latest guidebook was published in 2019(?) and the next expected update was TBD. Any update on this?

But one caution? Don't trust ANY guidebook for details like hours, entry frees, mandatory reservations, etc. during COVID times. Things are too fluid right now for ANY guidebook to be 100% up-to-date. For attractions you're interested in visiting, go directly to their official websites for the most current information.
On Monday Night Travel, Rick has said that they will do extensive work in 2022 to research and update their guidebooks; I didn't hear him comment about publishing schedules thereafter.
Thanks for the prompt reply!
