After the Passion Play 4 of our family member would like to tour the area .
Itinerary.
Sept 2nd
Want to stay in Garmish Partenkirche to go up Zugspitze.
Sept 3rd
Want to travel to Berchesgarden , do salt mines and Eagle's Nest.
Sept 4th
Travel to Munich and stay 2 nights.
Questions:
Rent a car or take the train
Places to stay in GP, Berchesgarden and Munich.
Any ideas please!!
By public transport the only reasonable option is via Munich (4:21,
€50/4 with Bayernticket); via Innsbruck it takes even longer (about 5:30) and is much more expensive (but the route is nicer). With a rental car, the direct journey takes about 2:30. However, you'd have to add time for the return of the car, which would probably be in Freilassing, so in the end there won't be much difference. However, with the rental car you could plan a nice route along the northern edge of the alps (following, with some modifications, the Deutsche Alpenstraße).
