What train tickets/passes to purchase

Hello! I will be flying into Munich and staying in the city center for a couple of days before then traveling down to Regensburg to take a river cruise. Because I'll be traveling to Regensburg on a Sunday and it looks like the only train from the main Munich train station to Regensburg on Sundays leaves around 5am, I'm thinking about going back to the airport and taking a train from the Munich airport to Regensburg.

From what I've read, the S-Bahn is the best way to travel between the Munich airport and the city center. From the airport, I'll then take RE22 to Regensburg.

Is there a train pass I could buy to cover all of these trips? Or will I need to purchase separate tickets for the S-Bahn and regional train?

I'll have all my travel luggage if that also makes a difference.

when is your trip? If you are looking way in advance and there are no trains it is because they haven't been posted yet.

Can you give more specifics please.

Due to track work, there will be no direct RE2 trains on the last weekend of November. However, there is an hourly connection at minute 24 past the hour with the RE3 to Landshut, where you can change to the RE2. With your plan to return to the airport, you will only lose time.

By the way: the final destination of the RE3, which is displayed on the train, is Passau, so don't let that confuse you; look at the overhead display instead.

Ticketing: (1) From the airport to the city: airport-city-day ticket, from an MVV or DB ticket machine: €16.50/1, €32/2-5; valid all day in the entire MVV network; (2) From Munich to Regensburg: Bayern Ticket (no time restriction on weekends): €32/1, €42/2.

The non-refundable Bayern Ticket covers the entire Munich > Landshut > Regensburg train trip by regional train for your travel date.

It will ALSO cover any additional buses, trams, subways, or trains you might need that same day in Munich and Regensburg.

Buy it using the DB app on 11/30. Advance purchase does not provide a discount or seat reservations or any other advantage.
