What to see at Sanssouci

I will be talking the Potsdam Walking tour on Saturday and thinking about getting tickets to Sanssouci for 3:30pm or so. What can I visit in that time. Is the timed entry only for the Palace or can you walk around the grounds? It's a little confusing on the official website.

Sanssouci is not large and doesn’t take a lot of time. We were with a friend from Berlin and he waited outside the Palace for us. The grounds were very worthwhile to visit too.

The palace is gorgeous. The grounds can take a lot of time to see all of it. I spent 2 days in Potsdam, almost all of it on the palace grounds.

Be sure to visit the Chinese Tea House. From another post:

The Chinese House at Sanssouci in Potsdam. Built for Frederick the Great as a tea house, the building is a testament to the popularity of Orientalism or Chinoiserie in the 1700s. The exterior is adorned with gilded statues of musicians with an array of instruments that sometimes seem almost Dr. Seuss-ian in their shapes and styles. The columns that support the roof are in the form of palm trees. Although often dismissed as a bit of Rococo-era "folly," the Chinese Tea House was actually designed by Frederick himself, working from similar designs at palaces around Europe including in France and Poland.

I loved the scale and sumptuous ornamentation of Sanssouci Palace, all the detail to soak up. Don’t hurry.

I’m sorry to say that my two visits to the palace and grounds were at during winter and summer seasons. For winter, the garden was so hibernating that you could only imagine what it must look like when things were unwrapped and blooming/leafing again but you could see it’s form clearly. My do over visit to the gardens was a few years ago on one of the hottest days of the decade. I’m afraid I didn’t linger or appreciate the gardens much on that visit. But the Palace still remains one of my favorites in Europe!
