What to do on way from MUC to Ammersee?

Our group of four 55 y/o seniors arrives at MUC from Chicago at 1PM in late Sept. We then have to go thru customs, get our luggage, then get our car rental. We are staying in Ammersee, which is a 50 minute drive from MUC. That means we'll arrive in Ammersee around 230-3PM, I'm guessing. That doesn't leave a lot of time to sightsee in Munich our first afternoon in Germany.

So, I'd appreciate any recommendations of something easy for us to do or see on first afternoon on the way from MUC to Ammersee. If you think there's something we can do in Munich, maybe on the north or west sides of the city, please LMK. I'd appreciate your recommendations. Thanks.

You may be too optimistic about how much time it will take you to get through passport control, get your luggage and get your car. You may be underestimating how tired you will be.

From your other posts about Spain, it's hard to tell if this is your first trip to Europe. Please forgive me if you've already considered all these things, but these are some basics to consider.

Who will be the driver(s)? Do the drivers each have an IDP (International Driver Permit)? Have all drivers studied up on driving in Germany and the road signs? Many will be in German. Do you have a designated navigator? Can the driver(s) drive a stick shift?

Are you sure your luggage will fit in the car you rent? You mention that you need to get your luggage. That implies that you are not traveling light. Even if all 4 of you are traveling carry-on, it still could be a tight squeeze.

And there's the ever-popular reality that the group will travel at the pace of the slowest person.

Thx for your reply. I've lived in Germany, so I'm familiar with driving there and I have an IDP. Agree with speed of the group. Need to consider the speed of other co-travellers. It's been a while since I've been thru MUC, so it's unknown how long it'll take to pass thru passport control, get luggage and car (an SUV). Fully understand the tired factor, having just returned from Spain. Since our co-travellers have never been to Europe, I was hoping for something or someplace to show them on the way from the airport to the hotel. We'll be hitting Dachau later in the week, so that's not a consideration for Day 1. Thx again.

Schloss Nymphenburg might be a good idea. It is located in the west of the city and from there you have direct access to the motorway 96 to Ammersee. Or drive directly to the lake. If your accommodation is on the west bank, visit the pretty and quiet town of Dießen with its large baroque basilica and take a boat trip on the Ammersee. If you stay on the east bank, take the boat tour and visit Andechs Monastery and drink a Mass of beer (try the dark one) or two and sleep well afterwards.

If it were me and the weather was nice I’d head strait to the lake!

If it’s not so nice Schleißheim is right on your route with two attractions. The afore mentioned Schloss and the Deutsches Museum Flugwerft.

Have fun.
