I like to do planning for travel. My spouse and I are taking a River Cruise from Budapest to Vilshofen in October. I have booked 3 days prior to cruise in Vienna. (We have been there before and love it.) But after the Cruise I cannot seem to decide what to do for 4 days. At this point I lean towards deciding at the end of the cruise where to go and then make some reservations. Is this advisable? We may go to regensburg or Landshut or Passau or more time in Austria?

Where are you flying home from and have you been to that city/area before? That might help me chose where to go for four additional days.

I hope you booked a few days in Budapest before you leave on the cruise? I met a rather large group Viking tourists a few days back that were not happy because they didnt realize the nature of the city they were starting in and didnt book any additional time.

Regensburg is nice, Ingolstadt is good, Nuremberg is great, and Augsburg is worth a visit too. All of those are close and easy to get to, and work if you're flying out of Frankfurt or Munich.
