We will be in Berlin for a week from May 15. What museums or other sites need to be booked well in advance. (just booked Vermeer tickets in Amsterdam for the week before this and they are already sold out now). So what do I need to get busy and book for Berlin?
If you want to see the Reichstag advance tickets are required.

We’re doing an underground tour and those need to be booked in advance: https://www.berliner-unterwelten.de/en/guided-tours/public-tours/dark-worlds.html
When we were there the only advance ticket we needed was for the Reichstag dome, and we obtained those tickets either earlier the same day or the day before. You should be able to register and book online. Beyond that, unless there's a ticketed event at one of the museums, or you're interested in opera or philharmonic tix, you should be able to just walk in. Others may have more current info.
I'll be in Berlin about a week later. My information is that each museum on Museum Island now requires a separate timed entry. That's definitely new since I was there the last time.
There were some very long lines on Museumsinseln as far back as 2015. If you opt for some sort of sightseeing pass that purports to cover those museums, be sure you know what you need to do to avoid those lines.
This is helpful. We always book time slots but usually a day or two out when traveling so want to know which things require a long lead time.
I would love to hear about the underground tour -- sounds like it could be interesting. I looked on the side and there are bunker and 'under the wall' tours. Has anyone done these and what did you experience and what did you think about it?
