What is there to do in Stuttgart Germany

I was thinking about going to Stuttgart Germany, but I'm not sure if they're many things to do there? Any thoughts as to whether Stuttgart is a fun place to visit?

Are you planning on driving to Stuttgart?

If so, I can completely recommend the Stuttgart branch of Mr Wash, the most incredible multi level, we-do-it-all car wash I have ever seen, which puts any California car wash to shame. I wish they had spectator seating but I guess it would get the viewers wet.

Have you just pulled Stuttgart out of a hat? What attracted you to that part of Germany?

How old are you, what do you like to do, where are you arriving from? You see how little we know about your plans yet we can't guess which of the many things in the vicinity might be of interest to you.

BTW, Mr Wash is not a joke, it is completely real.

Well, there's a new category of attractions that Rick needs to incorporate into his guidebooks....car wash facilities. This will be especially appealing to posters and others dedicated to always renting cars in Europe. Nice YouTube video.

which video, Bruce? The short Wall Street Journal one or the more in depth SWR/BW one?

Apropos of nothing, for completeness, I don't use the we do it for you wash, I use the do it yourself vacuums and the incredible mat cleaner.

Near Stuttgart is Herrenberg, with a market square lined with fachwerk buildings. Herrenberg is accessible from Stuttgart with the Stuttgart S-Bahn system.

A little farther away is Tübingen, the old university town. You can get to Tübingen from Stuttgart or Herrenberg via regional rail.

About an hour away (by train) from Stuttgart is the town of Hechingen with it's Hohenzollern castle.

Hi,

It has been years since I was in Stuttgart. There are absolutely places in Stuttgart and near to it you can visit, all a matter of priorities and interests, such as the city itself, Hechingen, Sigmaringen an der Donau, Tübingen, Marbach am Neckar, If you're interested in a WW2 connected site, see Albstadt Lautlingen, (transfer at Hechingen) All these places can be done as day trips using the regional trains or the S-Bahn. Aside from Porsche and Mercedes Museums, there are historical sites in Stuttgart, the famous Schloss, and check out the Königsplatz, a keen historical place.

The Staatsgalerie art museum is excellent and also has a rather distinctive and controversial building by the British architect James Stirling.

I agree that the Mercedes museum is well worth visiting, the Porsche one not so much unless you are a real Porsche fan.

We spent a week in Stuttgart in May 2007 and again in June 2016 and enjoyed it very much. The Mercedes-Benz Museum is great, and we’re not especially car fans. The Television Tower, Neues Schloss, Landesmuseum and the Wilhelma were all interesting sights. And yes, we did visit the Pig Museum (largest in the world)! We made numerous day trips to: Ludwigsburg, Esslingen am Neckar, Limes Museum in Aalen, Nördlingen, Black Forest, Strasbourg, Burg Hohenzollern, the Bodensee. We stayed with friends who showed us around with their car. There is lots to see, and it’s a bit off the usual tourist path.

If you are a soccer fan, try to take in a game of VfB Stuttgart in the Mercedes Benz Arena. They are part of the Bundesliga (top league), but the season ends middle of May. https://www.vfb.de/en/

What a great thread about an underrated city. I also sometime choose places to visit specifically because I don't know anything about them! The Mercedes-Benz Museum was a specific highlight for me (i'm an engineer) but just over all the city was just "nice" and not what I expected (in my mind I was thinking more mid century industrial).
