I am traveling to Hamburg at the end of February for 5 days to see family with my mother and I am not sure area to stay in. I was looking at Saint Georg area hotels , but some of the reviews about the area being not the best worries me. I was also looking at the Hohenfelde at the Holiday Inn Express. I would love some thoughts.

I would stay in the newly redeveloped warehouse-Hafencity area. You are within walking distance to the city's top attraction Minitur Wonderland, also nearby is the new maritime museum. The harbor area is also very close by. Had a wonderful stay at the 25hours Hotel Hafencity. One of the most unique hotels I've ever stayed at. It's takes it's nautical theme very seriously! Also has a subway station across the street.

I was there a couple years ago and stayed at the Motel One on Steindamm. I walked down that street every day to the main station when i was there. I also wondered around looking for restaurants. No problems.

The area around the Binnenalster is probably the nicest in the city, although some of the prices may not fit all budgets.
Hamburg has an extensive Ubahn system, so don't think you need to stay in the immediate vicinity of certain attractions.
