Hello fellow travelers! Doing a Danube River cruise in April and have only one day and one night in Regensburg. Will have a walking tour of the city included. I'm looking at adding the Weltenburg Abbey & the Danube Narrows ( by boat) excursion, but don't know if it is better to just stay in the city to explore it more? Is it safe to go back out at night to see more? Any tips would be welcomed. Thank you
The Abbey and gorge are well worth a visit and full of history, but will you have enough time? In summer I like to walk from Kelheim along the northern side of the river and cross to the Abbey on one of the small river boats (when running), have lunch and a Bier or two, then return to Kelheim on one of the large tour boats. Regensburg is a college town and the Altstadt a UNESCO World Heritage site and has plenty of night life. I have never felt threatened there.
