Weather damage along the Rhine

After heavy rains along the Rhine, there have been several landslides. No trains between Boppard and Bingen. There is limited train service on the right hand side of the Rhine, Koblenz - Rüdesheim line. Federal road B9 is closed around Trechtingshausen, Bacharach and Oberwesel.

The event "Tal Total" along the Rhine for tomorrow, 26 June, has been cancelled. Flooded streets, fallen trees, limited trains and fear of more land slides have been the deciding factors in the cancellation.

Jo,

Sorry to hear that you're also suffering problems in that part of the world. I encountered similar conditions when I was in that area in 2010, with extremely heavy rains and slides which disrupted rail lines and roads. While waiting at the station in Koblenz, I noticed a number of civil defense trucks (THW?) driving past the station very quickly. Fortunately the rail lines between Bacharach and Koblenz were still operating, but north of there to Cologne was washed out (which put a damper on World Cup fans heading to Cologne for the party).

Jo,

Is that recent damage?

I'm afraid that with all the idiocy recently here we haven't heard much of local news in Europe.

I remember just last month there was a lot of damage around Heilbronn but I hadn't heard of Rheintal problems.

As of today, still no trains along the left side of the Rhine from Bingen going north. They have substitute buses from Mainz for anyone heading that way. The right side has the trains running, but not quite as regularly.
