We will be traveling from Goslar Germany to Aeroskobing Denmark

We will be traveling from Goslar Germany to Aeroskobing Denmark. Apparently this will require a train and ferry. Can anyone offer some advice on the best, easiest route, how long it takes and are the train changes difficult/confusing? What's involved with getting to the ferry? And is it better to buy the tickets for this journey ahead or there?

Thanks in advance!

If you ride by train, your destination is "Svendborg St" on Fyn. The ferry terminal is near the station. Enter this into http://bahn.de/en for details. It takes about 9 hours from Goslar to Svendborg St. The ferry takes another 75 minutes. A shorter route is through Sønderborg and the Als island, but it is not necessarily easier. Maybe it's better to plan with a second stop e.g. in Hamburg?

Buying tickets in advance gives you some discount for the price of being bound to a single train. For buying ferry tickets in advance, note the train may have a substantial delay on that long journey.

Bahn.de shows me that this will involve at least 4 changes and take almost 9 hours. You will change in Hannover, Hamburg, either in Kolding or Fredericia and Odense, plus the ferry connection from Svendborg. The train changes are not necesarrily difficult or confusing, but it will be a long journey for sure. As suggested you could stop somewhere to break up the journey.

Thank you for your responses. I believe a stop over in Sonderborg would be a good choice. Would you please instruct me further, to get to Aeroskobing from Sonderborg?

There are two ways to get to Ærøskøbing from Sønderborg and neither are fast. The first is just the continuation of the journey already mentioned via the ferry from Svendborg.

The second is via the ferry from Fynshavn on the Als island. However this ferry goes to Søby on Ærø, which is the other side of the island from Ærøskøbing and there does not appear to be a bus that goes all the way from Søby to Ærøskøbing.

You will need a bus from the busstation in Sønderborg to Fynshav, a ferry from Fynshav to Søby, a bus from Søby to Tranderup on Ærø and probably walk the rest of the way (5 km). Or just see if you can get a taxi from the ferry in Søby.

Use www.rejseplanen.dk to plan all public transport in Denmark. However note that since there is no connection between Søby and Ærøskøbing, it won't show you the route via Fynshav.

The ferry scedules to Ærø can be found on www.aeroe-ferry.dk
