We have decide to drive from Munich to Vienna with an overnight. Intesting sites along the way.

Looking for one or 2 places to visit along the way to Salzburg and Vienna. Any advice? Preferably historical or naturally beautiful.
What is a good place to stay for 4 adults in 2 separate rooms in Salzburg and 3 nights in Vienna. We would like use Rick's tour schedule for the 3 nights. Then we plan to travel to Melk. I can see only 2 places to visit in or near Melk. Those would be the Abbey and the Mauthausen Concentration camp. Suggestions!

Ron - if you're up to it the bike path along the Danube is wonderful! From the RS Guidebook, we choose Melk riding up stream to Krems and then to took the 3 PM ferry back to Melk. The ride is ~ 24 miles and, for the most part flat; the ride is easy for anyone who is reasonably fit (no Spandex needed). Our hotels helped us rent a pair of ancient 3-speed bikes which worked out perfectly. En route, there are many places to stop, explore, sit in a cafe or sample fruit or schnaps from the adjacent farms. In late June the weather was perfect (but, you did specify your travel dates). If you "google" around the web you should read many positive comments about this particular stretch of the Danube bike path. The Abbey is not to be missed; and, Mauthausen is as you would expect gut-wretching. Gute Reisen!

Haha, lol...
Near Melk are: Schallaburg castle, Schönbühel castle, Dürnstein, Göttweig abbey, Krems an der Donau, which are all in the Wachau (valley), one of Austrias most beautiful regions.
Between Salzburg an Vienna are places like Kremsmünster Abbey, Steyr, St. Florian Monastery, Bad Ischl, the Gesäuse or Mariazell.
I would recommend to see either Kremsmünster or St. Florian, and spend as much time as possible in the Wachau.

It has been years since I visited this area but we really enjoyed St. Florian's Abbey and the Wachau Valley as already mentioned. It is a long settled area and we just enjoyed the settle feel of the small towns along the way. Maria Taferl pilgrimage church is a beautiful setting. After reading your other thread, I was thinking that this might be one of the few areas in which I would prefer a car to trains.
