Walking sandals in September

I am planning a trip to Germany (Bavaria, Black Forest, Rhine Valley) in September. I am trying to decide on footwear. I am definitely taking hiking boots but I need another pair of walking shoes and am thinking that sandals will still be ok at that time of year. I will be wearing my boots for the majority of the walking/hiking. I want to have the sandals for the evening strolls around town to dinner and such. I am torn between Teva Tirra and Naot's however. Naot's would be great for walking but I am concerned about the cork soles if it is very wet/rainy during our time there. Am I going to ruin them if they get wet? Anyone have experience with the weather in this area of Germany in September? Is it very wet and raining during this time?

I like the Keen brand for comfort, walking and possible wet conditions. I agree that Naot's are great for dry conditions. I would think the Teva brand would be another consideration.
Always good to be prepared!

Wheather anywhere in Germany at any time of year is not predictable. September can be quite beautiful, with lots of sunshine, and you might be lucky to get a really "Golden" September. But you have to be prepared for rain at any time of year in Germany, and the temperatures might drop to a point where you don't feel comfortable walking around barefoot in sandals or with wet socks.

So, unless you are willing to use your hiking boots for your evening strolls in case of bad weather, I personally wouldn't rely on sandals only.

I’ve used Keens and Tevas multiple times on extended summer and fall trips with a lot of walking and have found both to be excellent walking shoes.?

We just returned from our vacation in the Middle Rhein Valley. Although I brought Eurosoft cork sandals, I ended up wearing my Sketchers GoWalk sneakers almost every day since we walked so much. Also, the terrain around the medieval castles (Marksburg, Rheinfels, Burg Eltz) is rough and uneven, making sneakers a sound choice for footing. With that said, everywhere I went I saw ladies wearing Birkenstock’s and Tevas. If I liked that style of footwear, I would have been very comfortable wearing that type of sandal.

I wear my Keen Newport H2Os through October - Philly for the daily commute, but I have worn them hiking. They have spoiled me for fully-closed shoes which I seem to tolerate only when real winter comes.

Because I have a foot condition (neuropathy) I wear SAS sandals 365 days a year. I have hiked many places in Europe while wearing them. Probably 5-6 trips to Germany in Septembers.
