Greetings - Has anyone ever rented a VW camper for a family tour of Germany (& perhaps Netherlands, Austria & Switzerland)? We are a family of four and plan to spend a month or longer in Europe next summer. We aim to sleep in the VW at campgrounds for about half the nights we're there and hostel/hotel stays the other nights.
Any tips or advice?
for what its worth, we have been driving around these areas in the last few weeks. we did not notice that many vw campers, as such. the odd old one. but we did notice lots and lots of motor homes, an overwhelming number of them had Netherlands plates ( when we were in Germany) seems like they must travel there for holidays. most of the motorhomes were large and being driven by older couples.
we did notice a few vw transporters with bike racks on the back ( not camper models as such)
we keep an eye out for these vehicles as we are thinking of getting one ourselves.
