In a few months' time, a special train could cause wide eyes at Germany's railroad stations. With the VT 18.16 (actual photo), the former flagship of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, aka the “GDR ICE”, is set to provide nostalgic moments. Dozens of annual trips are planned.
In the next two months, test and training runs are still to be carried out as well as the remaining work and technical acceptance, according to the statement. The first multi-day trip in September from Dresden to Prague with the VT 18.16 can already be booked. Further trips will include Hamburg and Sylt in March 2026 and Bremen and Papenburg in May.
