Volunteering in Munich

My husband and I will be traveling to Munich in April. While we are there we would like to volunteer to help with the refugee crisis. Does anyone know of organizations we can connect with? Thanks!

Be careful that you don't breach your entry conditions. Even unpaid and purely voluntary work may not be permitted on a tourist entry with no working visa.

If you really want to help donate to the Red Cross, the World Food Programme or the UNHCR. They help the people who are really in need, and they are badly underfunded.

I strongly recommend connecting with Caritas, which is listed in the link above. We have been volunteering here in Vienna with Caritas during the refugee crisis and I feel that the work has been helpful and effective. There are likely also some grassroots organizations helping, as there are here in Vienna. There is an English speaking expat group here which has been very engaged in Austria. You might want to google something similar in Munich.

As someone with 20+ years in the refugee field and as someone who understands the scene, if I were giving my time or money, it would be to a local, grassroots charity, not one of the big internationals who really get their funding from governments.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have donated money but would like to do more.
