Visiting eagles nest

I googled to see about reservations for the bus to the top. It seems that there is one a day. But there are buses going up all day without reservations. We are going about the tenth of June, so should I reserve or just take our chance and wait until we get there. Thanks

John,

Have you considered taking an organized tour of the Eagle's Nest? This one is highly recommended and I believe it also visits the Dokumentation Centre and Bunkers above Berchtesgaden - https://www.eagles-nest-tours.com/ .

I went late last May without reservations and we only had to wait about 30 minutes. You'll probably not have much of a wait without, especially if you go earlier in the day before the busses start arriving.

Thanks Ken and Sarah. I checked out the site you gave me Ken and It looks great! Definitely something to consider. Sarah, I appreciate the info. We will be staying about a 45 minute drive away, so if I could convince my two granddaughters to get up a bit early that would work. I plan to go on Wed June 12th and we could probably get there by 10 AM. So, again thanks to you both for the advice and we have some quick thinking to do, especially if we decide to do the tour.

I've been to the Eagles Nest three times since 2000, last time in 2013, and I've never had nor needed a reservation. I just took the regular bus out to Obersalzberg and bought a ticket at the bus startup to the Nest. I might have waited a little for the next bus, but it wasn't long. All of those times were in September; I don't know if it would be different in the summer.

The first time there were freelance guides waiting at the bus parking lot just below the nest, and they took us on their own tour. I think they told us about everything we needed to know about the Nest. When it was built, why, etc. I also bought a book at the gift shop in the Nest, and it told be far more than any guide would have had time to tell me.

So, if you want to take an organized tour, go ahead, but I see no real need to spend the money. Just do a little research in advance.
