Hi, my flight got rescheduled and I now have a 7.5 hours layover at the Munich airport. I will not be getting my luggage here, it'll be sent to the final destination and I have the Schengen visa. Will the airport authorities allow us to go out and come back for our next flight to Rome? Airports in India do not allow to venture out during layovers if your luggage is with them, therefore, checking in if anyone could confirm for Munich airport. Thank you!
I would contact and ask the airport because
a) sometimes these rules have special factors / conditions / combinations a forum is not aware of.
b) you will get a reliable statement.
If allowed and this is your first approach from a non-Schengen area you need to pass immigration.
Yes, you can leave the airport, but you will need to clear Customs. The time of your layover is fairly important, because Munich is not a 24 hour city. If your layover is overnight I highly recommend using one of the airport hotels to get some rest. If it's during the day take the train from the airport to the main train station and from there it's a 10 minute walk into the old city and shopping areas. Make sure you are back at the airport in time to catch the flight.
