Varenna /Lake Como train noise?

HI
I have been looking at accommodation in Lake Como.
I have noticed the train is very close to Varenna - do you hear it?
I was thinking Pescallo over the hill from Bellagio would be a great location but its a bit pricey. However I am concerned about holiday rentals in Varenna due to the train noise.
I have watched the videos of Rick in Varenna and it looks wonderful - this is my only concern.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you so much
Simone :)

I did not hear it while in Varenna itself. Last heard it as it left the station after I got off

Unless the lodging you are looking at is "next to the track", I think you have no cause to worry

PS-- Lake Como is in Italy, not Germany

From what I remember, the train station is pretty far from the main waterfront area where most of the hotels are. I don't think you will have any problems with train noise if you stay in the main center. After arriving by train, I never thought about it or heard it again from anywhere in Varenna. It is a truly magical place to stay - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I've stayed at two different hotels in Varenna and never heard any train noise in either. Enjoy your stay. It's one of my favorite places!

I don't think you will hear the train in Varenna. I would be more concerned with the church bells. We stayed the Hotel Royal Victoria which was right next to the church. The bells rang every hour from 7:00am to 10:00pm. Our rooms over looked the bells. At first it was rather nice, but we soon realized it was impossible to take a nap, sleep in, or go to bed before 10:00.

I don't know about "holiday rentals" but I've never noticed train noise in hotels there. The tracks are above the town, so the noise doesn't seem to travel into the town. There will be fewer trains at night when you're trying to sleep. I'd suggest staying in Varenna rather than Bellagio, as it's more convenient for transportation.

Is there a reason you put this in the "Germany" section rather than "Italy"?

Note that neither Lake Como nor Varenna nor Pescallo nor Bellagio are located in Germany. :-)

Just to make sure you know where you are going. ;-)

we stayed in varenna a few weeks ago, ( near the water for a few days) our 2nd time there, we did not hear the trains, but did notice a few things. it was almost impossible to buy any food supplies ( we actually went across the lake to another town with a supermarket) and some of the restaurants there are only very average. just catering for the tourists, nothing special.
its is a very pretty town and in some ways ( from the water) is very similar to Hallstatt in austria IMO.
hope you have a great time.

I've stayed at two places in Varenna, including one not too far from the train station (midway between the station and the ferry). I never heard it.
