In one of the RS forums, someone mentioned a website "www.matrix.itasoftware.com" . i've been able to find some really low airfare here but am wondering if others have used this site and is it a valid site?? I'm moderately concerned as it does not show the "https" before the www.....thoughts??
Well, you've got the address slightly wrong, but it is a valid website. Here's the correct address:
https://matrix.itasoftware.com/
Should be a valid website. Run by this little company you may have heard of called Google.
You don't have to worry about the website's security, because you can't actually book tickets through it. But it's very helpful for complex routes, because if you choose "advanced controls" and press the question marks, you can see how to indicate all kinds of options.
For instance, my sister was trying to find flights from Washington DC into Cambodia and back from Laos, that had reasonable layovers (neither 1 hour nor 10 hours). By going to the "outbound extension code box" and entering a MINCONNECT and MAXCONNECT, she was able to find them. However, booking them was another matter; let's just say that China Southern Airways needs some work on its website! In the end, it all worked out.
There's also the ability to see the flights as graphic bars, which may be easier to grasp than just departure, arrival, and layover times.
My first go to place for flight planning.
Google bought it but it started life as the planning software for travel agents. They search on this site and buy on the airline site.
