Using the RMV-HandyTicket app without a German mobile number

As is typical for me before jetting off, I have been downloading and setting up local transit apps for my next trip.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set up and use the RMV-HandyTicket app without a German phone number to receive the SMS verification code? I can't seem to find a workaround within the app or website themselves. While I can find places that will allow me to "buy" an international phone number for a week or a month (virtual SIM), it seems Germany prevents this--you need a physical address in Germany to get a German phone number.

I have international coverage for data and text with my regular T-Mobile plan (which I've used in 10 countries on 3 continents so far--yay!), so I would prefer not to buy a local SIM. That said, I can take one of my old phones to use with a German SIM if that's the best/only option.

I would really love to be able to use the RMV-HandyTicket app, so any advice based on experience is appreciated!

P.S. The fact that Germans call a mobile "handy" is my favorite new fact learned while planning this trip.

I have the RMV (Rhein-Main Verkehrsverbund) app but haven't used it to purchase tickets. At some time in the past it has been authorised. I regularly use the MVV app to buy tickets in and around Munich and I use my UK iPhone. I also use the DB apps with no problem. VRS, VRR, VGN, KVV too.

So, at some time in the past I've had to register my UK phone for each of these apps and did it with no issues. If it can do a +44 number I don't see why it wouldn't do a +1, although Europe roaming is cheaper than US roaming and maybe they don't want to send a text to +1.

Sorry I don't have more help....

Thanks, Nigel! I did try it with my US mobile number first. The text with the confirmation code never came through, though. Oh, well--that's what ticket machines are for, right? :)
