Over next three weeks, I want to use Rick's walking tours in Vienna, Munich, Rothenburg and Salzburg on my iPhone. I have all the tours download on my phone.
I have arranged for International $10.00 a day when used plan but hope to keep my phone on "Airplane mode" to avoid any unauthorized calls.
What do I need to do to keep cost down and still use App or since tours are downloaded is there any charge from Verizon?
No, there are no charges, since they are already downloaded onto your device. If you need to download more, wait until you have free WiFi, and just enable WiFi while leaving cell service off.
The Rick Steves Audio app only needs data (Wi-Fi or cellular) to download tours and audio. Once you have downloaded a tour, no data is needed.
You can test this out now at home, just to see how it works. Put your phone in airplane mode, and you'll see that your already downloaded tours work fine.
If you do want to download more tours once you get to Europe, just do it while you were on Wi-Fi. That way you will avoid having to use your Verizon plan to do this.
