Hi all,
I am planning to attend college in Germany next year but am unsure if it is wise to sign a contract to rent a house as perhaps university´s will not be allowed to reopen for lectures? Does anyone on here have any ideas on if the German government will allow colleges to reopen there?

Googling a phrase similar to "will German universities have a fall semester" came up with a few sources, one indicating a later start, November 1st. By going directly to a few university websites they indicated a later start and stated that they would extend virtual learning if necessary. They also had pages with information particular to their COVID policy. By going to the website of the particular university you are interested in should get you the most definitive information.
Thanks for looking into it for me Don, I´ve actually got in touch with my university but they haven´t given me a definite answer at all, so I was wondering if anyone on here would have any predictions about how restrictions will be relaxed but I suppose no one can see the future. Seems like I will have to wait and see which is hard to do when you are trying to plan a move abroad
You are probably going to get a better answer from the university than any guesswork we come up with!
It’s not just the university, but air transport will have to resume too.

That's not a matter for the federal government nor for the single universities; rather, the decision lies with the federal states. And they simply wait and see. It is far too early to expect definitive information, everything depends on the further development in the respective state. Here in Bavaria, just now the decision has been made to hold the rest of the summer semester completely online and without teaching in the class room. No official statements with regard of the winter semester so far. My university (in Bavaria covid-19 is a much bigger problem than in, say, Sachsen-Anhalt) is currently saying that we should be prepared to do again at least some of our teaching online during the winter semester.
ok that makes sense, my college is in Baden Wuttenberg which is close to Baveria so I might be in a similar situation to you
