We are going to Germany from 8/9-8/24 and this is the last leg of our trip to plan. We have about 3-4 days before we have to return to Munich for our flight home. Ideas for reasonable rate small quaint lodgings would be great. Any chance of staying in a castle? This forum is outstanding! Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can book a room in Burg Hirschhorn, in the town of Hirschhorn. It''s about a 20 minute drive up the Neckar river from Heidelberg, but en-route from Ulm if you take the secondary road along the river (get off the Autobahn near Heilbronn) This is also a very scenic drive.
You can spend a good amount of time in and around Bad Wimpfen, which has a lovely little core, nice hiking by the river, and a salt works across the river in Bad Friedrichshall (if that is of any interest to you). Then, you take take the road by the Neckar to Heidelberg, I guess the same one Tom is referring to.
