Ukraine Museum opened in Berlin

Since some travelers ask for military sights and museums. I like to share that a new small museum / exhibition was opened in Berlin.

"At the Ukraine Museum, we present personal stories, the brutality of the war, and everything Russia wants to keep secret, all within a 300-square-meter exhibition space." (link to museum website)

From a rbb article: "The exhibits in the exhibition change regularly, as was reported. To this end, visits are made to Ukraine every month to bring back new objects and information. Interviews were also conducted with people, including on the question: “Leave or stay?”" (link to article in German language)

Disclaimer: I am not involved or invested in this museum in any way.

Thanks for the information Mark, another exhibit to add to the list for my return to Berlin. Whilst I have been to the Berlin Bunker it does warrant a return visit so this additional exhibition looks very interesting.

EDITED:

The story coincided with the 4th anniversary of the russian invasion. https://www.dw.com/en/ukraine-updates-russian-invasion-reaches-4-year-anniversary/live-76090458

The few displays that I could see in the photos seemed to be along the same line as a similar museum a few blocks from Independence Square (Maidan). One of the most interesting things was the drone exhibit where you could see the various models from the first modified hobby drones to the ones that are coming off the 3D printers today. They even had a Bayraktar and a few of the russian drones. Parked in the street in front were destroyed armored vehicles. Soldiers from the front gave the tours.

You cant see that sort of stuff, meet those sorts of people and not come back a changed person. If they do half as good with the museum in Berlin, and I bet they do; these are brilliant people, it might have some impact on public opinion.

Here is the origninal source for the story. https://united24media.com/latest-news/berlin-to-house-first-foreign-museum-documenting-russias-war-against-ukraine-16172 While you are at the website, poke around.

The support from European nations (not only EU) for Ukraine on all levels is huge. For travelers, this museum is a chance for a primary / second source impression if they are interested.

In 2024 I met one of these refugees from the Ukraine working in the 3 star hotel I stayed in Berlin located off of K'damm, ca. 7 mins or so from Bahnhof Zoo.

This middle age woman didn't speak much German, let alone English but her colleagues and the owner , all Polish from Upper Silesia, from Katowice, were fluent in German, the chief guy (so it seemed) was fluent in 3 languages Polish, English and German.

Lovely conversations with them even though I made it point to tell them I was from CA, the conversations stayed in German all time. They were interested since I had been to their town , once 20 years ago in 2001, not just knowing about it historically. Absolutely enlightening conversations with them on language, life, upbringing, traveling in Poland, the geography of their origins, etc.

On the subject of destroyed Russian tanks I have a keyring (in a smart presentation box) formed from a destroyed Russian T-72 tank in Ukraine. A QR code engraved on the back links to a page containing a number of photographs of the destroyed tank.

The box is engraved with the words: Made In Russia, Recycled In Ukraine, Never Forgive, Never Forget

Poignant words and it's a small contribution from me to show my support.

Thanks for sharing nice stories, Fred and JC.

One wonderful contribution from Ukrainian culture to the world is the melody from Christmas song „Carol of the Bells“, the original "Schtschedryk" is a Ukrainian folk song.

Mark, thank you for the post. I hope it draws attention to a large movement and more opportunities.

The exhibition in the Nazi bunker in Berlin is a testament to the creativity and genius of Ukrainian communication. Everyone can draw their own conclusions, but the Ukrainians have done an exceptional job of getting their point of view out to the public.
They have shown the same initiative in raising money.

I have first-hand experience that the European people have gone above and beyond for the refugees. Governments are one thing, but I remember one local football team where the other parents took the time to learn enough russian to cheer on the Ukrainian kids on the team. Because of the way they were received by the people and because of the government programs the refugees that I worked with want to make Budapest their permanent home and I would be surprised if this isn’t the norm across Europe.
