I'll be working in the Spangdhalem area but looking for things to do, including day trips, in the area. Most likely staying an extra week ad the end of my trip.

Anything along the Mosel River is beautiful. That is wine country. Burg Eltz is a popular destination for a castle tour.

you will be just down the road from Bitburg which is well known for its beer.
Trier is very close and has Roman history you can see.
