Tubingen - chocolART Festival - worth visiting?

Hi all,

I will be in Stuttgart and Esslingen in the first week of December 2022 to visit the Christmas markets.

I found out that Tubingen will host the largest chocolate festival in Germany during the time I am visiting. I am wondering if it's worth spending 1 or half a day to visit Tubingen from Stuttgart or Esslingen? Is the festival fun for tourists (first time visitor to Germany)?

Also I will be in Belgium/Brussels for the same trip so I am not sure if Belgium chocolates will be enough and I can save a trip to Tubingen! =D

Any advice is welcomed!Thanks!

I was in Tübingen many years ago and enjoyed my day there. Chocolate and Christmas lights will make it all the better.

Tübingen is indeed very picturesque and a destination for German tourists as well. Home to one of the oldest universities in the country, with a a number of sights. It's a direct train from either Stuttgart or Esslingen, takes between 45 min to 1 hr depending on the connection.

With you already going to Belgium, I would get my chocolate fix there, unless you are a 'chocophile' and want to enjoy multiple vendors in one setting. Btw, Esslingen is known for its old town plus unique Xmas market, so I would skip Tübingen given your other destinations, and minimize time on the road or train.
