Trip itinerary...opinions

Hi..me again.

We have finally narrowed our destinations down for the July trip. Per a few recommendations here we will stay in Munich for the first two nights to catch up from jet lag and see the city. We have decided on hotels vs an apartment.

As a reminder we are three people ( 2 in 50's, one in 80's), guessing that a hotel with a/c and a lift would be best.

Saturday afternoon until Monday morning in Munich.
Any neighborhoods you can recommend a good hotel in? Dad wants to visit the Hofbrau house. We will have a car so we can travel if there is a not to be missed spot nearby, but prefer just nice walks. Oh and a nice beer garden for the evening would be fun.

Monday we are off to Mittenwald or somewhere in that area for three nights. Our hopes are to visit a village or two, see some beautiful countryside, perhaps a trip to the top of a mountain and maybe visit Innsbruck.
Any recommendations are welcome.

Then the final four nights in Salzburg. The only criteria here is a concert and Mozart's home. Perhaps you can recommend an area that offers things Within walking distance.

Is this a decent plan? I think it allows for some downtime to relax here and there and some sightseeing.

Any ideas of things not to be missed in these areas or hotels with the a/c and possibly a lot would be greatly Appreciated.

We spent our first night in Munich (after flight from San Francisco) eating and relaxing at the Paulaner Bier Garten. We walked there from the Hotel Uhland so not sure how easy it is to reach by car. We enjoyed Hotel Uhland but it does not have air conditioning. We visited Dachau and found it thought provoking and worth the visit. We gained knowledge from the exhibits, even though we were fairly well educated about the Holocaust to start. In Salzburg we attended the concert at the Mirabell Palace. The musicians are not always the same, of course, but we enjoyed the setting and the string quartet we heard.

You have selected some nice locations, and should really enjoy the pace.

The hotels we used for those cities (Sept. 2015) were:
Munich - Mercure Hotel München Altstadt, Hotterstr. 4. This one wasn't cheap, but we wanted a central location and more American-type hotel for our first location to sleep well. This hotel has a small restaurant that was good for our first lunch and an excellent breakfast - even a honeycomb for all of the assorted breads, etc. and a machine to load oranges for fresh juice. The Hofbrau is walking distance as well as the famous clock, etc. We paid $216/night.

Mittenwald - Alpenhotel Rieger, Dekan-Karl-Platz 28, 82481 Mittenwald. This was a charming hotel, similar to staying at Grandma's house. We saw lots of older people at breakfast - not sure if they were locals having breakfast there or were other travelers. The location is a block or two from the quaint Mittenwald street. Our room was huge with a sofa and chairs, etc. and had a balcony where we relaxed after a bike ride. Don't miss the violin/Mittenwald history museum. I enjoyed it for a couple of hours while my hubby took the funicular up the mountain. We paid $135/night.

Salzburg - Altstadthotel Weisse Taube, Kaigasse 9. This hotel is very close to the cathedral, museums, main square, shops, etc. The staff is very friendly, and I've seen several other people on this forum also recommend this hotel. We paid $128/night. We found the Salzburg Card to be an excellent choice for us to see so much.

Thank you...I will check out the hotels this afternoon. I am so excited and it's months away! I appreciate all the suggestions.

We booked our Munich hotel...the hotel Torbrau, chosen for location, a/c and lift. It is. A little more than what thought it would be but will be worth it for ease of walking every where. I think this is a good choice. That being said I am off to find a spot in Mittenwald or that area with similar amenities for hopefully a little less per night. Going to try for the hotels recommended above.

Since you say you have a car with you, you need to check very carefully that the hotel you go to has guest car parking. Some of the ones other people have suggested that are very central are in pedestrianised areas that it might be hard to get the car into and out of as well. (And I assume you're aware that trying to get round central Munich itself by car is a very bad idea.)

Thanks Phillip ...I appreciate your mentioning that. We will park the car at the hotel and walk around the city or use the bus. If we d cider to travel beyond Munich then we will use the car. I did see that in Salzburg this is what seems a bigger issue as like you mentioned some hotels are in a pedestrian zone. It is making it more challenging but still manageable. I appreciate the input.
