Trip from Munich to Budapest to Prague

Hi all! I have planned a trip arriving by plane in Munich for 3 days (had planned a day trip to Salzburg one day), with an overnight train to Budapest so I don't loose daylight traveling, then 2 days in Budapest with an overnight train to Prague for 3 days. Flight leaves from Prague. It appears that the trains from Munich to Salzburg, and Munich to Budapest are cancelled until October 4th. Does anyone know if this is the case? We were planning on taking the overnight to Budapest on the 4th, and we want to have a back up plan. If the trains are cancelled, obviously Salzburg day trip is out and we figured we could leave Munich and either fly or drive to Budapest. I would prefer the drive to see more of the countryside, however I don't know how difficulty it would be to rent a car for Munich to Budapest and how safe it is? Any information or suggestions would be appreciated, Thank you!

My opinion is that overnight trains are miserable and 2 days is insufficient for Budapest. Given that, I would skip Budapest. If you must go then fly. We fly out of Budapest through Munich tomorrow. It's a quick easy flight. Been here 200+ days (over 12 years) and still not bored.

At the Budapest forum I have some drivers listed.

Thank you James for the suggestions. The more I have researched the overnight trains, I have come to find out that they are not the best experience, however I have already purchased the tickets. I just didn't know if the trains are even running from Munich to Budapest and Budapest to Prague at this time? Also this was a last minute trip and made plans quickly without much research. Wish I would've decided on more days in Budapest because it does look amazing! If our trains are still cancelled when we arrive we will leave early and only spend 2 days in Munich then head to Budapest for 3 days (2 nights). I looked at the flights and that is a possibility, although I would like to stick to a cheaper budget. As for renting a car I have noticed there will be a huge drop off fee for leaving from Munich and arriving in Budapest but it looked like the cheapest option. Wasn't sure about the roads in between Munich and Budapest as far as safety and also how backed up the roads might be due to the large number of migrants traveling?

The migrant thing is a day by day thing and there is no way of knowing with any certainty. Drop off rates and parking costs generally work against renting cars if it is only the end points you are interested in. Private transfers are competitively priced if there are 4 or more of you and a nice, convenient luxury for two travelers. The links I posted are for private transfers. Discount air carriers can be a hassle but are cheap and direct. Check out Czech Air as well as the usual Wizz, Germanwings, Ryan, etc.
