We are doing a full day trip to Trier from Cochem this summer. Unfortunately, the day we are able to travel there is not a day the TI office will be offering any walking tours as suggested by RS. We are big into history and would like to have more info than just a walk around on our own and/or reading the info aloud from RS' book for this stop. Does anyone have any personal experience with walking tours that are offered from Viator, Get Your Guide, or others? Thanks!

We did the Trier walking tour from the RS guidebook. Does RS suggest any guides in the guidebook? Be aware that Viator and Get Your Guide are 3rd parties/brokers and not the folks that actually do the tours. Some use Viator and Get Your Guide to scope out potential tours and then use that info to book directly with a guide/tour, when possible.
Jules--thank you. Yes, that's my worry about using a 3rd party tour operator. RS does mention that the TI office can put us in touch with local guides, which I might do, but it seems to be cost-prohibitive for me. I'll reach out and see what I find. Good idea about using the existing tours as a guide for finding something on my own, though. Thanks!

On the off chance that anyone will be in Trier during the first week of July and would like to go in on hiring a local guide for a 3-hour historic walking tour, please reach out.

Just some random information, but on Viator you can see which company is providing the tour. Click on Additional Information and then scroll down to the bottom of that section to see who is actually running a tour.
This info may also be available on GetYourGuide, I'm just not as familiar with that platform.
The TI may be offering some group tours too which shouldn't be that expensive.
Trip Advisor may have some group tour listings too, with the website. Even though Viator owns them they have lots of additional listings from companies that do not sell their tours on Viator.
