We are stopping for a night in Trier, Germany on our way from Belgium to the Black Forest, to see the Porta Nigra and the Kaiserthermen Roman Imperial Baths. Anyone have other things you'd strongly recommend we see or do while there?

In addition to the 2 sites you have listed, I enjoyed:
The Basilica of Constantine
The Cathedral
The Liebfrauenkirche
Rheinisches Landesmuseum - IF you go to this museum, be prepared to check your purse. I was not ready for that and wound up jamming my wallet etc in a pocket. I had stuff in my money belt but not everything so just be ready. This was also in 2016 so things might have changed. Do check to see if they are having a special exhibition. I caught an excellent one on Nero when I was there. Really, really well done.
I also just enjoyed walking around the old city center/Kornmarkt area and looking at the buildings. It's charming!
I did not get to the Roman Bridge or the Karl Marx house museum...it was a heat wave when I was there in a long ago August and I pooped out in the afternoon!
I think there's a Roman amphitheater as well.
